Fast Factory 50
~April 21 & 22, 2007~

By Ronnie Williams:

Hard-charging veteran Eric Turner took command from defending Fast Factory 50 champion Todd Cook on lap 14 and survived several late-race challenges to grab the 2nd Annual Fast Factory 50 collecting the $5,000 1st place prize money over a star-studded field Saturday night.

The field of 26 took the Green with Cook jumping to the lead from his pole position with Jordan Holloway in tow for the opening four laps. The 1st caution waved on lap 5 as 3rd place running Robbie Bryant and Jim Turpin spun.
On the restart, Cook and Holloway battled as Joe Miller and Turner battled for position with Turner taking the spot on lap 7 while Craig Mentz and Robert Brown were charging for their 14th and 18th starting spots to move into the top 10. A couple of quick cautions waved for single car spins before action picked back up on lap 11 as Cook, Turner, Holloway, Mentz and Brown had worked into the Top 5 and were coming quickly. On lap 14, Turner moved his "Metric Monte Carlo" around the smooth-driving Cook to take control as Robert Brown had moved around Mentz as Tim Brown, recovering from an earlier Spin, had came from the 24th spot to now move into 6th around Ritchie Tosh. The yellow waved as Tosh came to a halt in turn 2 bringing out the yellow. On the restart, Turner and Cook continued this battle as Holloway was close behind running 3rd as Robert Brown had now moved into 4th and was closing quickly. The race now took a long green flag run. During this long run several positions were being swapped as Turner was slicing through the field lapping several top runners. As the race hit the 35 lap mark, Turner was still setting a fast pace followed by Cook, Holloway, Robert Brown and Tim Brown with the top 5. Lap 39 ended Robert Brown's night with overheating problems as the running order stood Turner, Cook, Holloway, Tim Brown and Chris Ratterree.
On lap 42, the caution waved for debris as seven cars remained on the lead lap including Turner, Cook, Holloway, Tim Brown, Chris Ratterree, Craig Mentz and Ted Welschmeyer, who had started 21st.
On the double-file restart, Cook tried a low, line move which didn't work as he spun in turn 3 ending his run for a repeat.
On the restart, Holloway looked inside of Turner but Turner held the groove strong as Tim Brown and Holloway battled for 2nd place. The duo made contact on the backstretch battling as Brown grabbed 2nd with Holloway holding 3rd as Chris Ratterree and Craig Mentz fought for the 4th spot. A couple of late cautions kept Brown close to Turner but on the final 2 laps, Turner pulled away to grab the win followed by Tim Brown, Holloway, Chris Ratterree, Craig Mentz, Ted Welschmeyer all on the lead lap. Chad Smith, Luke Nieman, Bobby Ratterree and Larry Pruitt completed the top ten as 15 cars of the starting 26 were running at the end.
