2007 Midway Speedway
Awards Banquet

By Ronnie Williams:

Friday Night, November 2, 2007

Before a packed house of over 300 people, the Midway Speedway honored their 2007 track champions along with the top 10 drivers from the StockCar program along with their top go-kart racers for the season.

The evening started with owner Harold Armstrong giving the invocation while Dowd's Catfish house in Lebanon provided a wonderful buffet for the evening. Awards started with the go-kart track as Midway would provide giant trophies for the top 3 with plaques going to the other spots.

The Kids Rookie Flat kart class was called up first as 4th through tenth place were called for their plaques. Those karters included Morgan Johnson (10th), Jordan Martin (9th), Mikayla Callahan (8th), Conner Callahan (7th), Devin Duncan (6th), Arien Fohn (5th), and John Henson (4th). The top 3 were brought up to not only receive their trophies, but a chance to speak and thank people and sponsors. Those karters were Caleb Starnes (3rd), Austin Smart (2nd) and Champion Colby Latrop. Only 5 points separated the top 3 drivers in the Rookie Flat class as they received a huge Greeting from the crowd.

The Winged Rookie Outlaw Open class featured Lebanon's Zachary Carter grabbing the hardware as the season champion with the rest in order as Kaden Miller, Alex Stewart, Tyler Todd, Race Ryan, Alan Cunningham, Justin Wagner, Caleb Hughes, Zachary Wagner and Matthew Flood completed the top 10.
The Winged Rookie Outlaw Restricted class saw 2 young ladies honored in the top 10 as Eldon, Missouri's Elizabeth Larson claimed the 2007 season championship after a tough, season-long battle with Tyler Todd. Larson thanked her family and told the crowd the thing that she remembered the most about this season was giving Tyler Todd chocolate after he flipped his kart on the final points night. Lynchburg's Tyler Todd went right down to the wire in the points chase and just fell short but grabbed second place in the final standings. Tyler's moment that he remembers the most was flipping his kart and also thanked his family and friends. Justin Wagner, Zachary Wagner, Spencer Eagleburger, Elizabeth Stewart, Logan Harbison, Devon Stagner, Conner Schaffer and Carter Darnell completed the top 10.
The Junior 3 class honored the top 3 drivers with Lebanon's Derek Nash grabbing the season title with Timmy Carter, Jr. and Kody Teeters completing the top 3.
Two Adult classes were honored as Phillipsburg's 16 year old Michael Stake grabbed the hard-earned  title with Darin Nash, John Shelton, Tony Fincher and Scott Cole were honored.
The Adult Heavy class had Mike Rice claiming the season honors with A.J. Starnes, Jeff Fohn, David Nash and Cody Elliott in the top 5.
Two Rookie 4-Wheeler racers were awarded trophies for competing this season as Frankie Urbas of Richland and Lebanon's Dallas Teeters accepted awards.
The Speedway then gave out the StockCar program awards with track officials and sponsors being recognized for their efforts in 2007. The sponsors included Heartland Antique Mall, Knife Country USA, Coca-Cola, Tim Parsons Auto Sales, A & C Construction, Heartland Roping Arena, AMSOIL and many others.
The Super Stocks were awarded 1st with Donnie Ginnings claiming the 2007 track title followed by Travis Hill, J.C. Newell, Ben Newell, Clinton Betts, Larry Prewett, Bill Joiner, Mark Davis, Bennie Joiner and Bill Scharr completing the top 10.

And finally, the B-Modifieds would have area racer Jason Otto put his name into the record book as the first ever B-Modified champion as Jason thanked most his family, telling how it really pulls them together as a whole. Colt Cheevers, Troy Young, Jack Lancaster, Earl Muilenburg, Jamie Petty, Jeff Albright, Jr., Greg Strong, Steve Muilenburg and T.R. Phillips were also honored.
Awards were also given to Colt Cheevers (B-Modifieds) for winning the points championship in the Midway / Dallas County Challenge Race Battles followed by Jeff Albright, Jr. and Troy Young. And in the Super Stocks division it went to Donnie Ginnings followed by a close second by Ben Newell and dad, J.C. Newell.
